Health care a moral, not ideological issue

I congratulate U.S. Rep. Bill Foster for his courageous vote on health care reform, thus placing people ahead of profits.

There is no doubt the country is deeply divided on this issue. Those on the other side fear a government takeover of their health care. I've often wondered whether their judgment when a certain ideology along with myths and lies from various sources has compromised their rational thought process.

I would venture to say most everyone on that side of the issue knows someone who either: 1. Lost their benefits due to unemployment 2. Could not get insurance because they or someone in their family is sick. 3. Has insurance but was denied a procedure due to a pre existing condition 4. Was forced into bankruptcy because of excessive medical bills 5. Just couldn't afford the high monthly premiums.

I would go on to say that these same people are most likely family, friends or co-workers. What do you who are so adamantly against health reform say to these people? Sorry, that's too bad? Good luck, but I can't help you on this one?

I say that's not who we are as a people. We spend blood and billions to shore up other governments, yet when it comes to our own people, well, you're on your own. Bill Foster and others know this is a moral issue not an ideological one. Keep fighting the good fight.
