Lake Zurich (1-0) at Wheaton North (1-0)

Nonconference

Game time: 7:30 p.m. today.

Last year: Did not play.

Last week: Lake Zurich 33, Fremd 21; Wheaton North 49, Addison Trail 0.

Outlook: The first of four 2007 state finalists Wheaton North will face on its wicked schedule, Lake Zurich won its opener to pick up where it left off on the heels of claiming last year's Class 7A title. The Bears face a Falcons team headed by first-year coach Joe Wardynski, the defensive coordinator the previous four years at Wheaton Warrenville South - the team Lake Zurich beat in last year's title game. Lake Zurich thrives with the same stingy 3-5-3 defense. Against Fremd, Andrew Maloney paced the offense with 3 rushing touchdowns. Northwestern-bound Falcons running back Mike Trumpy began the season with a bang by rushing for 266 yards and 3 touchdowns in a little more than a half. Quarterback Taylor Graham threw for another 150 yards. Jon Fitzpatrick on the defensive line and Jack DeAno in the secondary helped limit Addison Trail to 86 yards. Both sides of the ball get a boost tonight with a pair of healthy bodies.
