• The Buffalo Grove Garden Club: 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14: "Decorating for Fall," presented by Mary Cantrell, a florist at Lake Zurich Floral Shop, at Alcott Center, 530 Bernard Drive, Buffalo Grove. Cantrell will use a variety of flowers and other materials to create amazing fall arrangements; after the presentation, arrangements will go home with a few lucky winners. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome.

• Garden Club of Lake Zurich: 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7: "Backyard Birds and Bird Feeding," presented by David Brooks, a professional naturalist, at Ela Public Library, 275 Mohawk Trail, Lake Zurich. Learn the "how to" of attracting a variety of birds to your yard with feeding stations and food plantings. The program will include a who's who of common local birds and some of the migrants to be found in spring and fall. Brooks lectures on Illinois natural history and green landscaping in the Chicago area. Guests welcome. Register for this one-hour lecture at the library event page: https://eapl.libnet.info/events. • Geneva Garden Club: 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 7, at the Stephen D. Persinger Recreation Center at 3507 Kaneville Road, Geneva. Brad Bruker from Bartlett Trees will discuss, "How to Get Your Trees Through Winter." Program starts at noon following lunch. • Lombard Garden Club, 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10: "A History of Trees in America," presented by Cindy Crosby, writer, teacher and lecturer on the tallgrass prairie and nature conservation, at Lombard Community Building, 433 E. St. Charles Road, Lombard. Crosby has a master's degree in natural resources, is a Master Gardener and teaches in the Master Naturalist Program. There is no charge and the public is welcome. • Northbrook Garden Club: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, at United Methodist Church, 1190 Western Ave., Northbrook. From jumping worms to Asian carp, alien invasive species have made their way into Illinois. These nonnative insects, fish, plants and animals can spoil the beauty of natural landscapes, endanger the future of forests and prairies, wipe out native plants and wildlife and cost businesses and homeowners millions to manage. • Schaumburg Community Garden Club: 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8: "Our Climate Crisis," presented by Kent Taylor, at Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Visit the club online at www.schaumburggardenclub.org.

• Mount Prospect Garden Club: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14. "Indoor Gardening with Succulents," presented by Veronica Porter, at the Mount Prospect village hall, Farley Room. Over the last several years, succulents have become very popular. Veronica Porter will walk you through growing succulents indoors and discuss why they make the best house plants. The past president of the Illinois Farmer Veterans Coalition and a member of Homegrown by Heroes, Porter runs her business, Ask Aunt V, in downtown Naperville.

Guests are welcome. Social time begins at 9:30 a.m. with a business meeting at 10 a.m.

• Arlington Heights Garden Club: 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27: "The New Invasives: Jumping Worms, Stink Bugs, Viburnum Leaf Beetles and more," presented by Nanette Kalscheur at St. Simon's Episcopal Church, 717 W. Kirchoff Road, Arlington Heights. Social time starts at 6:30 p.m. Kalscheur has a master's degree in natural resources and environmental science from University of Illinois, is retired from the Department of Agriculture and is a plant and pesticide specialist. She will discuss these invasives, their ecological impact and how to prevent their spread. www.ahgardenclub.com.
